We are looking to hire Instructor at Cambian Devon school-  Paignton Devon.

Who we are: Cambian is one of the largest providers of specialist behavioural health and care services for children in the United Kingdom. Its children's services comprise specialist education, specialist residential care, foster care, and specialist mental health services.

The school: Cambian Devon School is an independent, DfE-registered, co-educational day school, providing specialist education for up to 30 students, aged 7-18 years.

The Cambian School is non-denominational and has a secular ethos, but respects the cultural needs and religious beliefs of all. The School specialises in education students with SEMH through flexible learning programmes, delivered using high-quality teaching and exceptional pastoral care. We achieve this by forming particularly strong relationships between teachers and students.

Purpose of the Instructor:

  • In consultation with the Deputy Head Teacher and Head Teacher undertake other identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school’s curriculum
  • Seek to enhance educational standards by the effective development and implementation of an aspirational and engaging curriculum across the Key stages taught that strengthens the abilities and ambitions of our students.
  • To ensure that parents, students and staff are informed of progress towards individual and whole school targets.
  • To deliver good and outstanding teaching and learning across the curriculum areas taught.
  • To continue to develop standards of attainment, achievement and progress in the subjects taught.
  • To develop, monitor, evaluate and review engaging, relevant and innovative schemes of work in each year group, which will enable students of all abilities to make excellent progress and achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • Learning and Teaching:
  • To develop and enhance the teaching of their own practice, implementing improvements where required.
  • To work with the Deputy Head Teacher to develop a responsive and innovative curriculum in the subjects taught.
  • To ensure that a rich and creative curriculum permeates within and beyond the classroom.
  • To ensure the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date information concerning all key stages taught.
  • To evaluate the performance data of pupils and take appropriate action on issues arising – setting realistic deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken.
  • To produce reports on assessment performance, including the use of data

General Responsibilities:

  • To attend appropriate training conferences and foster your own professional development so that the school promotes external expectations of best practice
  • To act as a role model, leading by example
  • Knowledge and willingness to be trained in positive approaches to working with challenging behaviours associated with learning barriers (e.g. MAPA).
  • To undertake such other duties that are reasonably compatible with the role of instructor.
  • To report to the Head Teacher in the event of awareness of bad practice, maladministration or health and safety issues.
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities reasonably consistent with the role as may be required from time to time as determined by the Deputy Head Teacher or Head Teacher.

  • Eligibility to work in the UK and a teaching qualification or relevant experience in delivering education sessions
  • Suitable education qualifications such as A levels or a degree
  • Clean and current car driving licence

  • Successful experience of implementing positive behaviour support strategies
  • Knowledge
  • Skills
  • Knowledge of inclusive education that challenges students to reach meaningful outcomes for increased independence;
  • Knowledge of current curriculum developments in the subjects to be taught
  • Knowledge of child and adult safeguarding procedures;
  • Understanding of the principles of good curriculum provision.
  • Ability to attend work punctually and reliability;
  • Ability to communicate to an array of stakeholders;
  • Ability to produce accurate and legible written material, plans and reports to meet deadlines;
