Job Title: Lead Teacher of Science
Responsible to: Head of Education
Accountable to: Principal
Core Purpose of the Lead Teacher of Science Post
To secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and improve standards of learning and achievement for all pupils in consultation with the Head of Education (VP),
In consultation with the Principal and Head of Education undertake other identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school’s curriculum
To be the Science lead for the Quality of Education, Teaching & Learning and Curriculum development.
Seek to enhance educational standards by the effective development and implementation of an aspirational and engaging curriculum across Key stages 2, 3, 4 and 5 that strengthens the abilities and ambitions of our students.
To ensure that parents students and staff are informed of progress towards individual and whole school targets.
Key Responsibility: Quality of Education and Curriculum Development
Manage monitor and review the range, and quality, of all curriculum resources in order to improve the Quality of Education and improve students’ achievements in Science.
Monitor, evaluate and review the effects of policies, priorities and targets of the school in practice and take action as necessary.
To develop and lead a responsive and innovative curriculum in Science.
Be pro-active in promoting innovative curriculum proposals.
To be knowledgeable of education action research at local and national levels.
To ensure that a rich and creative curriculum is permeates within and beyond the classroom.
General Responsibilities
To attend appropriate training conferences and foster your own professional development so that the school promotes external expectations of best practice
To act as a role model, leading by example
Knowledge and willingness to be trained in positive approach to working with challenging behaviours associated with learning difficulties (e.g. MAPA).
To undertake such other duties that are reasonably compatible with the role as the Lead Teacher of Science
To report to the Principal in the event of awareness of bad practice, maladministration or health and safety issues.
To undertake such other duties and responsibilities reasonably consistent with the role as may be required from time to time as determined by the Head of Education and Principal.

Qualifications
QTS and eligibility to work in the UK
Education to Degree Level or Equivalent in Science (or one of the Sciences) or a closely related subject
Clean and current car driving license
Good ICT Proficiency
Evidence of continuing professional development or further professional study
Experience
At least two years of teaching in a primary, secondary, or special school setting.
Evidence of Good/Outstanding classroom practice in Science.
Leadership of a community project or an area of school development
Successful experience in taking a role in curriculum development for students with additional learning needs;
Successful experience of setting, reviewing and evaluating measurable standards.
Experience of utilising data to drive up standards
Successful experience of working effectively within specialist education;
Leadership Experience (eg – 2nd in Department, NPQHML or similar)
Successful experience of implementing positive behaviour support strategies
Successful experience in taking a role in curriculum development for students with additional learning needs;
Experience of Line Managing Others
Experience of Regulatory Visits
Knowledge
Knowledge of inclusive education that challenges students to reach meaningful outcomes for increased independence;
Knowledge of current curriculum developments in Science and their implementation within the service-specific setting.
Knowledge of child and adult safeguarding procedures;
Understanding of the principles of good curriculum provision.
Experience of working with a Clinical Team.
Experience of working in a setting with a Children’s Home
Skills
Ability to attend work punctually and reliability;
Ability to communicate;
Ability to produce accurate and legible written material, plans and reports to meet deadlines;
