Paralegal and Team Assistant – London, N1C 4AG, United Kingdom 

UMG’s Global Digital Business Affairs team are responsible for negotiating and administering UMG’s multi-territory licensing agreements with digital music services such as Spotify, YouTube, Deezer and Apple Music. The team is heavily involved in all things that bring together music and technology and work closely with UMG Operating Companies around the world to provide digital guidelines and support on their local deals.

  • Based in London, this role will provide general legal and administrative support to UMG’s Global Digital Business Affairs team based in London and Los Angeles.
  • Primary responsibility for general administrative and support duties for the London team including coordinating the signature of agreements, arranging meetings, booking meetings rooms, taking meeting notes, filing documents, processing invoices and expenses, arranging travel and being the point of contact for the team.
  • Support and assist the Global Digital Business Affairs team in the drafting, review and negotiation of key commercial contracts with digital music services.
  • Independently draft, review and finalise standard template agreements, such as NDAs and extension amendments.
  • Perform contract analysis and management, including the input of key deal terms into a contract database system.
  • Help to maintain internal UMG guidelines to support company policies and processes.
  • Assess commercial and other key aspects of digital deals submitted by the local Operating Companies for central approval, to ensure compliance with UMG guidelines.
  • Liaise and develop relationships with key individuals within UMG and the digital teams in the local Operating Companies to help ensure that the digital deal approval processes operate efficiently.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal teams across multiple territories to support the deal process, including Business Development and Finance.
  • Develop and maintain a sound understanding of new digital music products and services.

Person Specification

Essential

  • LLB/BA/BSc degree with an LPC qualification, SQE qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience working within an in-house legal team or at a private practice law firm.
  • Experience reviewing and summarising commercial contracts.
  • You must be proactive and reliable with excellent time management skills.
  • You must possess the ability to prioritise and pivot between multiple projects and work to tight deadlines, with a strong sense of initiative.
  • You must be able to independently and proactively manage your own work load.
  • You will need excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal) and an ability to explain difficult concepts to colleagues who may not have English as their first language.You must be able to complete work accurately with careful attention to detail.
  • Capable of working under pressure and maintaining calm.
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and document management skills.
  • Excellent analytical, research skills and computer skills.

Preferred

  • Experience working in a global team and managing multiple time zones.
  • Experience of working with or in the music (or other digital media) industry or with a strong interest in music or other digital media industry.
