We have an exciting opportunity for a finance professional to join our Society Financial Planning, Stress Testing and Reporting team, for one of the largest Building Societies in the UK. Working alongside other finance professionals in the team, you will be analysing data and preparing inputs to the monthly management accounts, half year and annual statutory accounts.

This role offers hybrid working, based out of our head office in Skipton, and any other flexible working requests will be considered. This role will be offered on a fixed term contract to provide maternity cover.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job.

We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.

Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.

Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter with a curious mind and the ability to motivate others to achieve complex and challenging goals.

This is an exciting time to get involved; we are currently re-shaping what our team looks like for the future, making sure we are adding the most value to the Society.

What’s In It For You?

Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.

We have a range of other benefits available to you including;

  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days
  • Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days
  • Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
  • Colleague mortgage (conditions apply)
  • Salary sacrifice scheme for hybrid & electric car
  • A commitment to training and development
  • Private medical insurance for all our colleagues
  • 3 paid volunteering days per annum
  • Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups
  • We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership

What Will You Be Doing?

Reporting to the Head of Society Financial Planning, Stress Testing and Reporting, you will be responsible for the management, administration and reconciliation of key balance sheet control accounts and the posting of month-end journals. Additionally, you will play a key role in the half year and full year end statutory reporting process.

Although the majority of this role is working with data and numbers, you’ll also balance this with building excellent relationships with your team members and stakeholders to ensure effective communication around processes and procedures.

What Do We Need From You?

We’re looking for someone who has demonstrable analytical skills and enjoys working with a range of data sources. You’ll be able to produce accurate work within strict timescales, meaning you can prioritise multiple tasks to achieve daily requirements.

You’ll strike the balance of being able to build relationships within your team whilst also being confident to make decisions using your own initiative. The key competencies for this role are:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and a working knowledge of finance systems such as but not exclusively – Workday (FINs and Adaptive Planning system) and Excel.
  • Working towards a professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA/CIMA/ACA part qualified) is desirable.
  • Motivation to contribute towards a positive and collaborative working environment.
