Job Title: Substance Misuse Worker (Part time) – Mental Health
Reporting to: Team Leader
Contract: Permanent, Part-Time 19.5 hours

About the Service/Department

To provide support with mental health and substance/alcohol misuse experience, working across Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster. Provide intensive support to service users with substance misuse difficulties at all points in the pathway with the overall aim of preventing hospital admissions and facilitating earlier discharge. Interventions would include:

  • Practical support – finances, housing, appointments,
  • Emotional support
  • Advocacy to ensure access to the most beneficial services
  • Crisis intervention
  • Involvement with discharge planning/post discharge support
  • Support with community detox
  • Encouraging engagement – accompanying to appointments
  • Liaison with statutory services
  • Educating/advising services on effective intervention

One worker would be designated to work specifically with BAME service users with substance misuse difficulties.

About the role
To welcome people to a safe space following referral from the CNWL Rapid Response Services and provide appropriate support

Some other main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To liaise with other providers of support and/ or treatment to the customers, in line with Information Governance Protocols, to provide multi-agency support
  • Instinctively remains positive and open to changes that will have a positive impact on their support delivery and ultimately the customers
  • To work closely with the Team Manager, Service Manager and Recovery Worker colleagues to provide a whole team approach to customers using the Service
  • To take part in promoting and developing the service standards of the organisation

About you

  • Demonstrable experience of working with individuals who have experienced mental health and / or dual diagnosis issues
  • Knowledge of issues affecting those individuals with a range of mental health conditions including crisis management, how to communicate effectively with these individuals and how to support them with dignity and respect
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation i.e. Care Program Approach (CPA) processes
  • Understanding of the principles of recovery as an ethos and a range of recovery approaches
  • Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative and to oversee induction of new peer staff and volunteers
  • Ability to work with statutory services i.e. NHS at the front line.
  • Working with Peer Support Workers as an integral part of the team.
  • Awareness of health and safety issues
  • Good IT skills that include a working knowledge of functions in MS Word,
  • Outlook and the internet
