Burberry’s trade mark team provides the foundation on which our global enforcement and protection of the brand are based.  We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Trade Mark Professional with to join our team, reporting to the Director, Brand Protection. This person could be a junior counsel or a Trade Mark paralegal with prosecution experience. We are looking for a team player with a global mindset who is commercially savvy but also able to connect with the design team. 


  • The strategic and day to day management of the company’s global IP portfolio which includes trade marks, designs and copyright, including working with our network of external advisors in the filing, prosecution and maintenance of rights, and maintaining oversight of deadlines and Diams record management with our trade mark Paralegal;
  • Conducting and analysing multi-jurisdictional clearance searches, including for names, logos, packaging and product design, and providing internal clients with clear, practical and commercially-minded advice;
  • Managing global trade mark opposition and cancellation work, including reviewing watch notices, instructing counsel, collation and preparation of supporting evidence and witness statements, negotiating settlements and co-existence arrangements;
  • Oversight of the preparation of trade mark documents including Powers of Attorney, declarations of use, and liaising with internal clients to obtain evidence for declarations of use;
  • Providing ad hoc advice on IP provisions in commercial agreements;
  • Provide IP training and education within the business as required;
  • Opportunity to manage a trade mark paralegal subject to candidate qualifications


  • Trade Mark Paralegal with prosecution experience, trade mark attorney (qualified or part-qualified) or a junior counsel with a minimum of three years of experience
  • Passion for IP and for the brand they work for
  • Excellent communicator, able to work closely with external counsel, internal clients, and regularly engage with the global Brand Protection team
  • Collaborative, problem solving approach with a commercial mindset.  The provision of timely risk-analysis and commercially pragmatic advice is key.
  • Ability to work largely independently, while also partnering with teams across different functions.  Confident in building relationships within a fast-moving business environment.
  • Organised, able to prioritise and work to tight deadlines
  • Has experience with Diams IQ or similar trade mark management system
