University Language Teacher in Spanish
School of Social Sciences and Humanities
Part-time (FTE0.45), open ended contract
Loughborough University’s Language Centre team of 12 teachers delivers credit-bearing modules and extra-curricular courses to non-specialist students from across the University in French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, from beginner through to degree level. Our dynamic small-group teaching receives high levels of positive feedback from students, and we are always seeking to improve and evolve.
We are currently looking for a part-time experienced professional educator to join our Spanish team from 27th January 2025.
Applicants to this post will be native or near native speakers of Spanish with a first-hand experience of at least one Spanish-speaking culture, a solid pedagogical competence, and a commitment to delivering stimulating classes that engage students, actively helping them to achieve positive learning outcomes.
You should have prior experience of successfully delivering courses in Higher Education and have an excellent capacity to contribute to teamwork, as you will be one of several teachers delivering modules. Ideally, you would have an affinity for teaching beginner courses, which currently form the bulk of this post.
Most of the work hours for the post are concentrating in term time, with the current post holder teaching 10 hours per week. Our teaching takes place weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during University semesters (see https://www.lboro.ac.uk/students/welcome/when-you-get-here/term-dates/ ).This can vary depending on the type of duty you are undertaking; patterns of delivery could also change in future. We adjust to childcare timetabling requirements, when it is possible to do so and still fulfil our duty to our students.
Continuous Professional Development is an essential element of the Language Centre’s ethos, and you need to be able to demonstrate that you have sought out opportunities to update your skills, keep abreast of new developments in teaching, and ideally shared new skills, practices or ideas with colleagues and students.
For more information refer to the Job Description and Person Specification.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Yvonne Cornejo, Language Centre Manager, by email at Y.F.Cornejo@lboro.ac.uk.
Closing date for receipt of applications is: 23rd October 2024
