We have an exciting role on offer within our Financial Planning & Support service as a Senior Accounting Officer.

This is an exciting opportunity for a confident and motivated individual wishing to further their career in accountancy.

You will report to one of our Finance Business Partners, carrying out, and/or leading on, a variety of tasks providing support across the Education & Partnership Directorate, including revenue and capital budget monitoring, forecasting, Modelling, budget setting, closure of accounts, completion of statutory Government returns, and processing of grant claims and sensitivity analysis. You may also supervise junior members of the team. You will be as comfortable working with, and communicating appropriately with, budget managers and non-finance staff, as you are with fellow finance staff, and will be skilled in building successful working relationships and providing appropriate challenge when needed. Although working in Finance, you will be working closely with operational staff within Council Directorates, so there is plenty of opportunity for getting out of the office and getting a feel for the services behind the figures.

As part of Middlesbrough Council’s broader transformation programme and our continuing work on improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND, we are looking for a motivated and experienced finance professional to work into the SEND & Inclusion Service to drive forward improvement work in relation to high needs budget management. This role is a unique opportunity to work closely with system leaders across finance and the service area to implement change which is focussed on increased financial sustainability of the high needs budget. As part of this role there will be opportunities to make a significant contribution to the implementation of a new resource allocation system for the distribution of high needs top up funding along with a range of other work including demand forecasting, sufficiency planning and capital projects.

This role provides an excellent platform to build on your existing skills, whilst developing your knowledge and experience. Enhanced opportunities to supplement day to day duties with project work will be available for the right candidate.

Salary: £41,771 – £44,075
