Finance Assistant – Grantham 

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual for the role of Finance Assistant, based in Grantham. The role involves managing daily accounting operations, including ownership of accounts payable, providing cover for accounts receivable, and assisting in the preparation of weekly and monthly reporting information. This position offers an excellent opportunity to become a key member of the finance department and contribute to the growth and success of the business.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Process supplier invoices daily, ensuring timely and accurate entries.
  • Perform supplier statement reconciliation on a regular basis.
  • Ensure timely payments to creditors and record them accurately.
  • Conduct month-end creditor account reviews and reconciliations with the Finance Manager.
  • Update Accrual and Prepayment schedules for review by the Finance Manager each month.
  • Assist with order raising via the Purchase Ordering system.
  • Perform regular bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Provide information to support weekly and monthly management reports.
  • Provide sales invoicing cover when the other Finance Assistant is on holiday. 
  • Offer ad-hoc finance support as directed by the Finance Manager. 
This is not an exhaustive list.  You may also be required to carry out any other duties as required by the business that you are qualified/trained in that meet the requirements of this role. 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise 

Essential
  • AAT Level 2 or equivalent qualification in accounting or finance.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at grade C or above.
  • Proficiency in accounting software
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes.
  • Basic knowledge of financial reporting and reconciliation
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Proactive problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. 
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities. 
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar finance or accounting role. 
Desirable
  • Progress towards or completion of AAT Level 3/4 or similar qualifications.
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems 
  • Knowledge of VAT regulations and compliance. 
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying process improvements. 
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Previous experience in a multi-site or group finance environment. 
  • Exposure to month-end and year-end financial processes.
