How you’ll make a difference

As an Early Intervention Officer, you will upskill sector leaders to engage early years practitioners in further developing their Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) knowledge, practice and skills.

What you will be doing

  • Working closely with other colleagues, you will ensure preschool, nursery and childminding settings across South Gloucestershire are supported to develop and embed inclusive practice in order to meet the needs of the children in their care.
  • Regularly, you will develop excellent practice in terms of care, teaching and learning through an inclusive approach and provide differentiated early years provision for all children, particularly those with special education needs.
  • It will be key for you to promote partnership working with parents, carers and outside agencies such as health.
  • It will be your responsibility to be involved in a diverse range of tasks such as leading training, role modelling practical strategies in settings alongside practitioners and children and supporting the completion of paperwork for Education Health Care needs assessments and annual reviews.
  • By providing training, advice and specialist guidance, you will ensure settings effectively meet the needs of all children, particularly those with identified special needs.

What we need from you

  • It is essential that you hold a relevant childcare qualification for example, NVQ3 in Early Years and Childcare, teaching qualification or equivalent relevant qualification.
  • We require you to have at least two years considerable experience of working with children in an early year setting, and particularly those children who have special educational needs. You will also have experience of planning and delivering training to groups and/or other professionals.
  • Given the elements of this role, you will be able to plan and organise your day-to-day activities and be flexible and responsive to meet the needs of your colleagues and customers in order to meet deadlines and to enable children to access provision.
  • You must have a good understanding of the statutory requirements for preschool settings. You will also need the ability to achieve a good understanding of local government, enabling you to effectively research into early years legislation, regulations and best practice to record findings in a clear, concise format.
  • It will be key for you to have good interpersonal and communication skills to support partnership working and to build relationships with contacts and customers.
  • It is essential that you are competent in evidence gathering to fulfil assessment criteria and have good report writing, presentation and IT skills.

What you need to know

  • This role is hybrid, with a mixture of working at our office in Badminton Road, Yate and from home.
  • You will be expected to travel throughout the authority and surrounding area so you must have a full, valid driving licence with regular access to a vehicle or have an alternative means of travel.  
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
