Category Analyst – Newcastle Upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear

  • This is a full-time role, however flexibility in this will be considered

Main Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead data analytics for category performance/reviews with actionable data insights feeding Category Plans and Strategic Menu Plans to improve margin and sales
  • Work with Category Planning Managers and Head of Category to inform strategic menu decisions using customer, POS, and basket data
  • Collaborate with Finance Business Partners to track category performance, support trial reviews, and build business cases for new product launches
  • Own and develop the reporting tools and dashboards being the team expert in Power BI/SAP linked to Great Tasting Freshly Prepared Menu pillar and wider business requirements
  • Build and establish weekly/period/annual data reporting for the function which can be shared with a wider audience to drive Commercial objectives
  • Recommend Category hierarchy and data management improvements to access greater insights from POS/Customer Data
  • Bring the benefits of data and AI to life within the team through a collaborative working relationship with Data & AI Team
  • Assist in event-based planning providing event/season-based menu analytics/recommendations to the Category Planning Managers
  • Work closely with the Promotional analyst to identify opportunities led by basket data to driver promotional opportunities
  • Monitor competitor activity and summarise key insights for internal stakeholders, working closely with customer insight
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, F&R, marketing, retail, supply chain, and finance to support category reviews and commercial planning
  • Maintain data accuracy and integrity across reporting tools and systems
  • Contribute to ad hoc analysis projects where required to support the wider team

Ideal Candidate

  • Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Physics or a related field
  • Proficient in Excel, with experience in Power BI and/or Python; additional programming skills are highly desirable.
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving skills with a high-level of curiosity and initiative to identify opportunities
  • Ability to communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Desirable- Experience in a retail, FMCG, or commercial environment
  • A result focussed approach with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others

  • IT skills including Microsoft 365; SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
