Policy Analyst – Westminster, SW1A0PW
We are looking for a Policy Analyst to join our Committee Office at the House of Lords. You will be leading on high-quality research and analysis on public policy, as well as delivering written and verbal briefings and organising evidence sessions with a range of stakeholders.
This is a fascinating and highly rewarding role. You will work as a generalist policy analyst, providing support for cross-party select committees. Over time, the role will offer the opportunity to work across different policy areas. As Policy Analyst, you will help to shape the work of committees and will work closely with senior stakeholders within Parliament and experts in the field.
You will be able to work up to three days from home per week (dependent on business needs), and a minimum of two days on-site in Parliament. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a keen interest and prior experience in public policy and enjoys working in a fast paced, dynamic working environment.
You’ll be accountable for –
- Monitoring key policy and political developments in the area(s) currently under investigation.
- Suggesting and researching topics to be investigated by Committees and writing inquiry scoping notes.
- Identifying, contacting and briefing prospective oral evidence witnesses, and preparing possible questions that members might put to them.
- Analysing and summarising evidence submitted to Committees and drafting briefing notes on key issues.
- Contributing, with the support of experienced colleagues, to drafting committee reports and correspondence.
- Attending committee meetings and briefing the chair and members of committees orally, when required.
- Liaising with a range of people with an interest in Committee work, and maintaining a network contacts.
- Providing other support as required, such as helping to organise visits and events with members of the public.

What we’re looking for –
- 2:1 undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Good knowledge of, and professional or postgraduate experience in policy and the UK public policy environment.
- The ability to become proficient in new topics quickly.
- Excellent and proven written communication skills, including the ability to distil large volumes of material into clear, concise, and analytical briefings and reports.
- Understanding of the political context of Committee work and wider public policy debates.
- The flexibility and resilience to produce high-quality work to tight and competing deadlines, showing initiative where appropriate.
