About Us
This post is based within the Pharmacy Department at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science who is ranked 3rd Nationally for Pharmacy and 10th Globally. We deliver the highly regarded MPharm undergraduate programme and postgraduate teaching (including the pharmacist independent prescribing course).
Our School comprises of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science which have a mission to improve patient outcomes through fundamental science discovery translated into patient care. The School has 300 members of staff (including 80 Principal Investigators) and 200 PhD students located across King’s Guy’s, Denmark Hill and Waterloo campuses.
Our academic excellence for healthcare science is widely recognised: we are ranked first in the UK for Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy in terms of the proportion of King’s overall submission that was ranked 4* and research environment (REF2021).
About The Role
We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow for maternity leave cover. The purpose of this role is the delivery of high-quality education in clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice, with the key task of managing clinical pharmacy placements. This role is vital to equipping students with the skills and knowledge required for successful careers in healthcare.
The appointee will coordinate and contribute to the experiential learning (clinical placements) of pharmacy undergraduate students. The appointee will work closely with the MPharm Placement Officer and the Clinical Teaching Team to ensure effective communication with placement supervisors and students regarding the preparation for placements, delivery of the experience and assessment. The role is key for the Pharmacy department as it involves working closely with, and providing leadership to, the Pan-London Pharmacy Consortium, which combines University College London, Kingston University and King’s College London Pharmacy departments to ensure that clinical placements equip students with the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary for their future career, and maintaining the reputation of King’s within the pharmacy community.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the teaching of their subject area. These may include lectures, seminars, tutorials, e-learning, workshops, and individual supervision. Staff are expected to be engaged in the planning, design and leadership of teaching, and to be making wider contributions to the work of the School and the University.
Additional duties include being a personal tutor, guiding students in their academic journey including support for Foundation training applications (Oriel), and contributing to the development and marking of assessments.
