King’s College London is recruiting a Senior AV / Theatre Technician to work within a dedicated AV team, supporting a wide range of AV and IT user-facing systems to deliver teaching and lectures as well as both internal and external events.  
 
King’s College London does not have a drama department or teach theatre, but our students undertake productions as an outside interest which we support in the Greenwood Theatre. The venue is also hired by external clients. This role encompasses providing supervision, training and technical support to a wide range of stage events, taking responsibility for the venue and users, assisting them as they require. 
 

About the role:

 
The AV/Theatre Technician provides a high level of customer support and assistance to staff, students and visitors using AV equipment for teaching, lecturing, conferences, or external events, whether under the direction of the AV Supervisor, Theatre Manager or by own initiative at the assigned site.
 
We are looking for a self-motivated individual with excellent customer service and technical skills who will deliver a first-class user experience for staff, students, and visitors via in-person support, telephone calls, email, and Microsoft Teams. 
The role will primarily be based at our Guy’s Campus. You will provide support to our lecture theatres, classrooms, meeting rooms and other spaces. Your daily duties will include supporting users and maintaining devices including Crestron control systems, PCs, data projectors, PA systems, smart boards, visualisers, lecture capture, and other AV equipment.
You will also spend some of your time supporting student and external productions in the Greenwood Theatre, supervising groups, providing training and technical support, and ensuring the safety of users of the building. This will involve shifts on evenings and weekends.
 
Other responsibilities include managing AV bookings, ensuring that the required AV equipment is available and functioning in the rooms or delivered as required for lectures, functions, and events; using remote tools to monitor and assist users; audio and video recording of lectures and events; and Microsoft Teams support for hybrid meetings and HyFlex teaching. 
 
You will take the initiative in arranging and supporting live events, video production requests, and maintenance issues.
 
This role would be ideally suited to an AV technician with some technical theatre experience, or to a candidate currently working as a school AV/Theatre Technician.
 
 
This is a full-time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
 

About you: 

 
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria 
  1. Good standard of written and spoken English
  2. Significant prior experience in the provision of audio visual services
  3. Good level of technical knowledge and understanding of a wide range of audio visual services and technologies, audio, video, multimedia, standards, formats, delivery, etc. 
  4. Excellent customer service skills appropriate to high profile events 
  5. Broad experience and skills in a range of technical theatre disciplines including but not limited to lighting, sound, stage management and projection 
  6. Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  7. Experience of working effectively as part of a team, particularly with regards delivering services and problem solving jointly 
  8. Ability to think creatively to anticipate and solve problems and take corrective action where necessary 
  9. Proactive, flexible and responsive approach to work 
  10. Ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines 
Desirable criteria
  1. Previous experience in production of events from conception through to completion 
  2. AV related technical qualification
  3. Theatre related technical qualification
  4. AV and/or theatre related membership of a recognized organization (AVIXA, AES, IOA, ABTT, etc)
  5. First Aid, fire safety, or other health and safety training
