Assistant Transport Manager – Linwood
As the Assistant Transport Manager you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service levels, ensuring full compliance with all areas of the Operators Licence, Health and Safety and management of employees within the Transport Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance to all required areas of the Company Operators Licence requirements.
- Act as a named party on the Company Operators Licence.
- Deputise for the Transport Manager, assisting in the main aspects of this role.
- Maximise financial performance through routing efficiency in terms of service delivery and vehicle profitability.
- Assist with weekly financial forecast, ensuring all costs have been accrued via PO system.
- Deliver and report on Transport KPIs, including service levels and profitability.
- Deliver service excellence by effectively managing Driver and vehicle resource to meet customer requirements.
- Line management of Drivers, Transport Controllers and Transport Admin.
- Recruitment of Drivers, Transport Controllers and Transport Admin to meet the resource and skills requirement so the department.
- Onboarding and induction of Drivers, Transport Controllers and Transport Admin.
- Training and continuous development of Drivers, Transport Controllers and Transport Admin to safely and competently perform their roles.
- Effectively manage team performance, ensuring all staff achieve their targets and objectives, addressing any performance issues.
- Ensure clear communication channels and drive engagement with Drivers, Transport Controllers and Transport Admin.
- Liaise with external contractors to secure resource and vehicles.
- Drive a positive H & S culture, ensuring near misses/observations are reported and investigated accordingly.
- Ensure full compliance with drivers’ hours and tachograph rules and within speed limits, taking appropriate action when necessary.
- Ensure Driver accountability for daily vehicle safety checks, ensuring these are carried out with defects being reported and rectified accordingly.
- Ensure all vehicles/trailers are presented for inspections and MOT’s.
- Ensure housekeeping in our yard and offices is kept to the highest of standard.
- Perform Transport Controller duties as and when required.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Strong commercial, financial and legislative understanding of transport operations
- CPC Qualified
- Leadership and management of people
- Results orientated, with desire and tenacity to optimise performance
- Customer relationship management skills
- Strong IT literacy skills and a good understanding of all Microsoft Office systems
- Reporting and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced and demanding environment
- Excellent time and personal management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Have the ability to multitask and have a keen eye for detail
