Description: Cambridge City Council is committed to our vision of “One Cambridge, Fair for All”. To deliver this vision, we’re building a new team, to amplify the voices of residents most in need to improve our services and local offers. We’re looking for someone who shares our vision to join our new Equity and Community Power team.

The Role:
We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about tackling inequality and building community power.

In joining us you will support the development of cross-cutting policies, projects and processes that improve the Council’s approach to equity, community cohesion and that will deliver on our equality and diversity objectives.

You’ll develop projects informed by residents’ lived experience and other sources of data on needs and priorities of equality groups, such as that held by Council services, to build an evidence base of community needs and deliver projects to reduce disadvantage.

You’ll work with teams across the council, alongside key external stakeholders to develop the council’s approach to Community Power. As part of this, you will help to enable greater collaboration between communities and public organisations in the design, commissioning and delivery of local services.

You will work with and support local communities to identify their strengths, needs and aspirations. You will enable, fund and support the voluntary sector and other partners to develop, co-design and coordinate projects, campaigns or initiatives that help to address key inequalities in Cambridge, tracking outputs, outcomes and impacts of funded projects.

About you
You have a passion for addressing inequality and a drive to develop solutions that improve outcomes for marginalised people.

You will be experienced in working with marginalised and under-represented communities and have an understanding of the voluntary and community sector. You will also be experienced at managing projects, partnership working, and using data to develop evidence-based decision making.

You will have an understanding of equalities and diversity legislation. You’ll understand the concepts of equity and community power and have ideas about how we can implement these in a local context.

As a strong communicator, you will have the ability to communicate technical information in a simple way.
You’ll be engaging and collaborative, involving local people in developing solutions.
