Content Development Editor – China – Beijing

Circa:

Salary – Salary Plan, 250,000.00 CNY Annual

We are looking for a Content Development Editor in China to join our Journals team in a dynamic, fast moving publishing environment. Working closely with the senior editors you will play a key role in improving the quality and quantity of articles submitted for publication, while continuing to promote the content and deliver journal Key Performance Indicators.

 

You will be involved in keeping track of trends and gaps in scientific research and interpreting those to the development of our journals and books. You will be responsible for establishing and maintaining close contact within the scientific community, by working directly with authors and editors to uphold an efficient peer review process which maintains high professional and scientific standards while operating at high volumes.

 

Your responsibilities will focus on:

 

Commissioning (Directly inviting authors to publish)

  • To directly contribute to the team’s commissioning, content development and marketing activities

  • To identify commissioning leads through desk-based research as well as visits and conferences

  • To commission articles in order to maintain, improve and develop the quality of the products

  • To collaborate with Marketing on innovative commissioning activities

 

Community interactions

  • To develop and maintain good relationships and excellent channels of communication with existing and potential authors, readers, referees, and Board members.

  • To maintain and develop RSC journals’ presence and impact in collaboration with journal and marketing team.

  • To represent RSC publications at various occasions in academia.

 

Strategic input to journals’ development plans

  • To support journal and portfolio development through data analysis and community insights

  • To identify emerging topics and market demands for the new development opportunities

  • To understand the competitor landscape and be able to reflect it in short term and long term plans

 

Other responsibilities

  • To work on cross-departmental projects from time to time, and ensure that every effort is made to progress RSC Publishing’s strategy

  • To develop and maintain an effective team work environment for the role’s purposes and be able to show ownership of results and process

  • To work closely with UK and China teams as required

 

 

We are looking for:

 

  • A master’s degree or above in science (chemistry, material or environmental science normally preferred)

  • Strong research and analytical skills

  • Strong sense of responsibility and able to lead through the process towards good results

  • Understanding of China’s education and academic system

  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic publishing

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven ability to work well in a team.

  • Good organisational and time-management skills are required together with the ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines

  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
