Job Title: Control Officer

Salary Range: 37602 – 45564 plus shift and weekend allowance

Permanent – Fulltime (36hours)

Location: Joint Control Centre – Wandsworth Town Hall complex

Other essential information: This role includes work in the evenings, Nights and at weekends.

Are you looking for your next opportunity to work as part of a team in a 24-hour emergency control room covering the Boroughs of Richmond and Wandsworth. To be responsible for receiving and logging calls from the public, outside agencies and partners. Use two-way radio for passing out jobs and receiving back information to be processed for contractors. Also to monitor personal alarm systems and burglar alarms responding in line with codes of conduct. 

About the role

You will be reviewing CCTV footage and to provide access to evidence materials from the CCTV systems to the Police and other authorised agencies, including providing evidence statements.

We are looking for a special individual who can work calmly and methodically during Major Emergency incidents. This role falls within the Housing and Regeneration department but works closely with all Council departments to provide a 24/7 service.

This position provides an emergency response in both boroughs and as such Control Officers may have the Council’s most varied role.  You might be dealing with a lift trapping on one call, then assisting the Police with a CCTV enquiry, and then helping somebody through their personal alarm who has fallen over. You must be able to adapt to all of the varied incidents.

You will be the primary point of contact for out-of-hours issues and emergencies, ensuring swift and effective resolution of critical situations, including coordinating responses for multiple conflicting service areas and the ability to react quickly to swiftly changing demands and priorities

The role is in the Council’s state-of-the-art Joint Control Centre in Wandsworth Town Hall.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • To be personable, sympathetic and to be able to deal confidently with clients who may be distressed.  
  • Good communication skills (verbal, written and face to face) able to write reports.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work without close supervision periods and to be able to make decisions independently   
  • Must be well organised and adaptable, responding to quickly changing priorities.
