Overview

Conventional Safety Lead – Bridgwater, UK

About the Role

Ready to lead Client‑side safety governance on one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects?

At EDF, Success is Personal – and with us, your career journey is yours to shape. Your expertise will assure compliance with CDM 2015, strengthen our Integrated Management System, and set the standard for safety across our delivery partners.

The Opportunity

As our Conventional Safety Lead, you’ll act on behalf of the Client to ensure all activities at Hinkley Point C (the UK’s first nuclear new build in a generation) are conducted in line with our Zero Harm ambition. You’ll provide governance and assurance, not day‑to‑day site supervision, working within the Safety & Regulation Directorate (Health, Safety and Learning) to discharge the Client’s duties under CDM 2015.

You’ll join us on a salary of £65,000+ per annum, with the potential for an annual bonus. This is a hybrid role with flexible working arrangements.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assuring compliance with CDM 2015 in relation to the Client’s responsibilities
  • Maintaining and improving health and safety management systems and standards within the Integrated Management System
  • Interfacing with external certification bodies and regulators and reporting at Client governance forums
  • Leading audits, reviews and assessments to identify best practice and address gaps
  • Ensuring accurate classification and recording of events in line with LC7, driving proportionate corrective actions through delivery teams
  • Supporting contractor evaluations and scoring submissions
  • Managing office OSH arrangements (DSE process, first aid needs, risk assessments) across NNB Client offices and supporting the Wellbeing Strategy

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Client‑side CDM practitioner with a governance mindset who thrives in complex, high‑risk environments. Do you offer…

  • 10+ years’ industrial experience in fast‑paced project settings
  • Proven experience in major infrastructure or energy projects
  • Expert practical application of CDM 2015 in an operational setting
  • Strong skills in analysing safety data and identifying trends
  • Experience leading audits and assurance activities
  • Confidence in presenting insights to senior stakeholders
  • Expertise in maintaining integrated management systems
  • Experience supporting contractor evaluations and engagement
  • A strong foundation in occupational health and safety, holding a NEBOSH Diploma and membership with IOSH or EIT, ideally working towards Chartership

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will ordinarily require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a salary of £65,000+ per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market‑leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That’s why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that’s unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it’s your journey, powered by us.
