We have an exciting role on offer within our Children’s Services as a Family Support Worker.

About Us

The Resource Team are a team of highly motivated individuals that assist to promote care and support to families within the local authority. We provide supervised family time for children (contact) who are in the local authority, we cover graded care, parenting and write life story books for a number of children, young people and families.

The majority of the role will include supervising children in various settings to maintain family links. and will assist in promoting children’s life journey by creating life story books. This passion for working with families and children also involves supporting parents to develop their parenting skills and empowering parents to make sustainable and positive changes. Furthermore, we are committed to Restorative Practice when working with young people and their families.

The successful candidates will provide a high quality of care and support, which meets the physical, emotional, intellectual, behavioural, health, social and cultural needs of the children and families for whom we provide a service. This will include working with families who can display challenging behaviour, complex emotional issues, mental health disorders and other additional/special needs. Staff are required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of children, young people and the families of Middlesbrough.

Part of the role may include being able to undertake emergency on call work and work outside normal office hours. There is an expectation that Resource staff will commit to work 365 days a year. The successful candidates will be based initially in Hemlington but will be expected to be prepared to work across and outside of Middlesbrough. This will involve working from Children’s centres, specialised rooms or within the family home.

Applicants must:

Have a recognised QCF level 3/4 diploma in working with children and young people or an equivalent qualification or a willingness to undertake.
A Full UK Driving License is a requirement for this post and suitable business insurance Ownership of your own car in good condition with a MOT certificate (if needed).
Maths and English GCSE grade 3 or equivalent Experience of working with families, children and young people in a variety of settings.
An understanding of child development and challenging behaviour.
An understanding of restorative practice and family group conferences.
A positive attitude and the ability to work with young people.
Flexibility in their working role regarding hours and days worked.

The post holder will be required to work unsocial hours – including weekends, bank holidays late nights and early mornings.
