Lecturer/ Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy/ Medicines Use x2 – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS
About Us
These posts are based within the Medicines Use group at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science. Staff in the Medicines Use group focus on research that builds understanding of how to promote optimal patient, healthcare professional and system use of treatments, directly impacting on outcomes for patients and promoting sustainable use of healthcare resources. We contribute to departmental undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of healthcare professionals particularly the highly regarded MPharm programme.
Our School comprises the Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science which have a mission to improve patient response through fundamental science discovery translated into patient care.
The School of Cancer & Pharmaceutical Sciences has 300 members of staff (including 80 Principal Investigators) and 200 PhD students located across King’s Guy’s, Denmark Hill and Waterloo campuses.
Our academic excellence for healthcare science is widely recognised: we are ranked first in the UK for Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy in terms of the proportion of King’s overall submission that was ranked 4* and research environment (REF2021).
About The Role
We are seeking two motivated Lecturers / Senior Lecturers to join our growing Medicines Use Research Group at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (IPS).
We encourage applicants who have an expanding, innovative research agenda in topics relevant to medicines and use and clinical pharmacy, with potential for impact on clinical practice and patient outcomes to enhance the world-class research portfolio of the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences and King’s Health Partners clinical academic groups of Pharmaceutical Science.
We are recruiting two new academics with expertise relevant to clinical pharmacy and medicines use with a preference for those with research interests in medicine use and AI, digital health research or precision medicine (pharmacogenomics). These new posts will place the department at the forefront of understanding the potential of new approaches and technologies to transform effective medicines use.
Given the relevance of medicines use for a wide range of healthcare professionals and conditions, staff within the Medicines Use Group already have broad connections across School and Faculty and externally across King’s Health Partners. The new appointees would be expected to deepen these relationships and enable the development of new interfaces with teams across KCL.
The applicant should have a strong, fundable research area that fits with the School of Cancer and Pharmaceutical Sciences and have obvious potential for collaboration with researchers across the School, the Faculty, King’s, the UK and internationally.
The role requires a skilled, inspiring educator to teach on existing undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Science particularly on our MPharm programme and as a supervisor to research postgraduate students.
KCL recognises that an inclusive workplace delivers greater impact and we are looking for an individual who will help evolve our welcoming, vibrant, and inspiring environment. A key part of our ethos is equality, with a dynamic and fulfilling culture for all and an emphasis on tackling under-representation of female and minority ethnic researchers in science.
The post holder would be responsible to Prof Ben Forbes (Head of IPS), Dr Sarah Chapman (acting Head of Research Department of Medicines Use) and Dr Richard Parsons (Head of Teaching Department of Pharmacy).
This is a full time post, and you will be offered an indefinite contract. Applicants who are clinically active may be able to negotiate a reduction in FTE (minimum 0.8FTE) to undertake a small clinical load.
Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers , applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
