As Legal Counsel, you’ll play a key role in managing legal risk and delivering advice that’s timely, practical, and commercially smart – enabling NTS to achieve its mission with minimal legal risk.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Keep Leadership Informed: Ensure GC/AGC/SC have everything they need to advise the Board and stakeholders.
- Be a Role Model: Foster a resilient, collaborative, and constructive team culture.
- Partner with the Business: Build strong relationships across NTS to understand priorities and deliver proactive legal support.
- Advise & Assure: Provide legal advice on projects, transactions, and operational activities.
- Shape Deals: Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements.
- Governance & Compliance: Enforce corporate governance and compliance policies.
- Dispute Oversight: Manage litigation and disputes effectively.
- Lead Projects: Take ownership of legal projects and transactions.
- Manage External Counsel: Oversee law firms and budgets across jurisdictions.
- Support Leadership: Act as delegate for AGC/SLC on complex matters.
- Templates & Tools: Develop and maintain contract templates.
- Risk Reduction: Drive initiatives to reduce legal risk and improve operations.
- Collaborate Across NDA Group: Build relationships and contribute to NDA Legal Working Groups.
- Educate & Empower: Deliver training, presentations, and write articles on legal developments.
- Represent NTS: At forums, with partners, customers, and suppliers.
- Continuous Improvement: Seek better ways of working and recommend changes.
- Advise Broadly: Cover areas such as litigation, employment, safety, environment, regulatory enforcement, safeguards, transport, nuclear law, insurance, subsidy control, IP, compliance, procurement, real estate, technology transfer, and collaborations.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive) eligible to practice in England/Wales.
- Minimum 4 years PQE.
- Strong experience in commercial law and contract negotiation (in-house experience is a plus).
- Knowledge of public procurement law desirable.
- Ability to advise across other areas (competition law, IP, employment, etc.).
- Skilled negotiator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- High integrity, adaptable, resilient, and solutions-focused.
- Technically excellent, commercially aware, and pragmatic.
- Flexible approach to working hours to meet business needs.
