Night Shift Supervisor – Nottingham

We’re looking for a Night Shift Supervisor to join our Operations team at our Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). This is a key role responsible for overseeing site operations during the night shift, ensuring safety, productivity, and quality standards are consistently met.

Working in a fast-paced recycling environment, you’ll lead and motivate a large operational team while maintaining efficient material processing and ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements. With reduced on-site management presence overnight, this role requires strong leadership, decision-making, and the ability to resolve issues independently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead a night shift team of operatives and equipment operators.
  • Conduct shift briefings and proactively identify and manage site hazards.
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture, ensuring PPE compliance and safe working practices at all times.
  • Oversee the operation of sorting lines, conveyors, balers, and other MRF equipment.
  • Troubleshoot minor operational issues and coordinate with maintenance teams where required.
  • Monitor material quality, minimising contamination and ensuring output meets market specifications.
  • Maintain site cleanliness and organisation.
  • Complete accurate shift reports covering production, incidents, equipment issues, and staffing.
  • Communicate effectively with day shift management during handovers.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:
  • Proven experience supervising teams in a processing, recycling, manufacturing, or similar environment.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a hands-on approach.
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems independently.
  • A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Willingness and ability to work night shifts.
Desirable:
  • Experience working in a Materials Recovery Facility or waste/recycling environment.
  • Knowledge of conveyors, balers, and material sorting operations.
  • IOSH or other health and safety qualifications.
