About the role
Working at the heart of the Mayor’s Office, we are looking for an experienced Policy Adviser to the Mayor to provide high-quality policy advice, analysis and political insight across designated policy areas.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, you will act as a key political and policy interface between the Mayor’s Office and Combined Authority teams. You will translate the Mayor’s priorities into effective policy, ensure the Mayor is well briefed on delivery, risks and emerging issues, and develop clear communications around key priorities.
This is a high-profile role requiring strong political judgement, excellent analytical and communication skills, discretion and the ability to work at pace across policy development, political advice, communications and stakeholder engagement.
About you
You will have:
- Significant experience in a policy, political, public affairs, communications, government or public sector environment.
- Strong experience advising senior political or organisational decision-makers.
- Excellent research, analytical and policy development skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce concise and persuasive material for senior audiences.
- Experience drafting briefings, speeches, statements, policy papers, media responses or similar material.
- Strong political awareness and judgement, including the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
Experience of working with a Combined Authority, local authority, central government, Parliament or an elected representative would be desirable, as would knowledge of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough region and experience within a Mayoral or devolved government environment.
