Research Assistant – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About us:

King’s College London is one of the world’s leading universities, renowned for excellence in education, research and innovation. Through its commitment to improving health and wellbeing, King’s undertakes research that addresses some of the most significant challenges facing health and social care nationally and internationally.

This role is based within the Centre for Mental Health Nursing Research in the Health Services & Population Research Department. The Centre for Mental Health Nursing Research delivers high-quality research aimed at improving the delivery and experience of mental healthcare and mental health nursing across a wide range of service settings. Working closely with healthcare providers, policymakers, service users and carers, our research informs clinical practice, service development and mental health policy.

The department brings together researchers, clinicians and professional services colleagues in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. Through partnerships across King’s, the NHS and external organisations, we are committed to generating evidence that improves outcomes for people experiencing mental health difficulties and supports the development of effective, equitable and person-centred mental health services.

About the role:

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join an innovative qualitative research project exploring the lived experiences of suicidality among people with eating disorders. Funded for three years, the study aims to address a critical gap in understanding how individuals with eating disorders experience, make sense of, and navigate suicidality across the life course.

The Research Assistant will play a key role in the delivery of the project across all work packages. Working closely with the Principal Investigator and project partners, the postholder will support participant recruitment and data collection for the interview study, contribute to qualitative data analysis, and assist in the interpretation and dissemination of findings. The successful candidate will also coordinate Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities, supporting members of the Lived Experience Advisory Panel and ensuring meaningful involvement throughout the research process.

In addition, the postholder will contribute to the co-design and delivery of knowledge mobilisation activities, including the development of creative outputs with lived experience partners and the organisation and facilitation of stakeholder workshops involving clinical, policy and lived experience communities. The role will involve working collaboratively with a wide range of partners, coordinating project activities, facilitating meetings and workshops, and supporting the production of academic publications, conference presentations and other dissemination outputs.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience across the full research lifecycle, from data collection and analysis through to co-production, stakeholder engagement and research impact, within a supportive and multidisciplinary research environment.

This is a part time post (80% FTE, 28 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for three years.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the  Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
