How you’ll make a difference

As a School Crossing Patrol, you will play a vital role in helping children, families and other pedestrians cross the road safely on their journey to and from school.

Working for one hour each school day, you will provide a safe and reliable crossing service, ensuring the wellbeing of pedestrians and promoting road safety within the local community. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a positive difference every day by helping children and families travel safely and confidently to and from school.

What you will be doing

  • You will provide a safe and effective road crossing service for individuals at designated crossing sites, helping to promote road safety and reduce risks during busy school travel times. 
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, their parents or carers, school staff and members of the local community, you will act as a friendly and approachable ambassador for the service while maintaining a professional presence at all times.
  • It will be your responsibility to identify and report any safety concerns, hazards, accidents or issues affecting the crossing site to the Lead Road Safety Officer, ensuring appropriate action can be taken promptly. 
  • Using a range of equipment associated with the role, you will carry out routine checks to ensure equipment is available, fit for purpose and in good working order, reporting any defects or maintenance requirements as necessary. 

What we need from you

  • We are looking for someone with practical skills and a sensible, safety-conscious approach, who is willing to undertake the training required to carry out the role effectively.
  • You will be able to learn how to use the equipment associated with the role, including prescribed road safety signs, ensuring they are used correctly and confidently. 
  • It is essential that you have a strong awareness of health and safety, with the ability to remain alert and focused while working in a busy roadside environment.

What you need to know

  • This post is term time, working 30 mins in the morning and 30 mins in the afternoon, Monday to Friday.
  • Your salary will be pro rata to hours worked.
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.

Interviews will be carried out regularly through July to December 2026.
