The Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) is a Faculty of King’s College London (KCL) and the largest academic community in Europe devoted to the study and prevention of mental illness and brain disease.
The School of Mental Health & Psychological Sciences (MHaPS) is one of three schools under the IoPPN, comprised of the four departments of Psychology, Social, Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP), Health Service & Population Research (HSPR), and Biostatistics & Health Informatics (BHI). Our internationally renowned research encompasses developmental science across the lifespan and integrates basic research with the design, evaluation, and implementation of evidence‑based treatments, services, and policy.
The role is situated within the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme at King’s College London, within the Department of Psychology.
The post holder will be employed by King’s College London but also hold an honorary contract at SLaM and will be jointly line managed by senior leadership within both organisations.
About the role:
The Senior Manager (NHS Human Resources) – Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme will oversee all aspects related to the NHS employment of Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) students, who are employed on three-year full time training contracts with the South London & Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM).
Under the line management of the DClinPsy Programme Director and supported by the Senior Commissioned Programmes Manager, the post holder will work closely with the DClinPsy staff team and NHS Trust leads to provide effective leadership and management of the approximately 132 trainees on the KCL programme.
The role will be responsible for ensuring operational compliance with SLaM policies and procedures, Agenda for Change conditions of service, the Equality Act (2010) and other relevant legislative and local requirements in relation to the trainee clinical psychologist cohorts. This responsibility will be met via leading all relevant SLaM Human Resources, Operations and Finance/Payroll processes and procedures related to the trainees NHSE employment alongside advising staff on best practice within systems where appropriate.
The role would suit someone with management and leadership skills with the ability to manage complex arrangements in relation to recruitment, conduct and HR issues and an interest in working across two large and complex organisations.
The role will provide individuals with a wide variety of experience and skills working across multiple operational functions, supporting the individual to progress their career within Operations and Human Resources management within the University or the National Health Service (NHS).
As line manager, you will be supported by administrators within the two organisations who will ensure the smooth running of the management of the trainees within both SLaM and at the IoPPN. and HR issues in line with NHS employment policies and procedures.
You will liaise with university staff and NHS colleagues on professional practice issues, attendance and other policies effecting trainees, and alert the programme team to any concerns raised. You will meet regularly with both the Programme Director and SLaM senior director for management and to help ensure any difficulties are appropriately escalated or redirected.
It is required that you will hold an honorary contract with SLaM and adhere to SLaM policy and guidance as part of your honorary role within the trust.
This is a part time post (14 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract for 3 years.
