Role responsibilities
- Lead complex commercially focused transport related projects through the application of robust project lifecycle methodologies (such as APM or PRINCE 2), implementation of project plans and efficient resource management to ensure attainment of key milestones and completion of projects to time, cost and quality.
- Provide professional and effective project governance through project reporting, facilitation and chairing of technical working groups and executive steering groups in accordance with the required processes and timelines to ensure the projects are managed and communicated effectively.
- Manage and lead project teams by collaborating with colleagues, consultants and contractors to ensure projects meet delivery outcomes.
- Act as the ‘Sponsor Agent’ by being the interface between the sponsor and the project, helping to define scope, providing instruction to the delivery team and providing any clarification needed. Ensuring the organisation and sponsor are kept informed of progress, that the project remains visible through effective reporting and that there are no surprises.
- Identify and monitor project risks including financial, reputational, quality and health and safety by collaborating with Transport for Wales (TfW) risk professionals and managing project risk registers to ensure effective mitigations are implemented and risks are controlled.
- For assigned projects, be accountable as the primary point of contact for external partners and key stakeholders including Welsh Government and Network Rail by facilitating reporting and meeting structures to enable communication of progress.
- Prepare task orders, purchase orders and review supplier invoices by processing these in line with contract requirements and with TfW’s financial processes to ensure TfW maintains accurate records with the supplier chain in accordance with the appropriate contract.
- Be accountable for assigned project budgets by liaising with the Head of Retail & Ticketing and Finance Business Partner to review and escalating any variances to ensure costs remain within agreed budgets.
- Lead lessons learnt reviews at project completion by working with the project delivery teams and partners to discuss best practice and future changes to ensure continuous improvement to TfW project delivery.
- Mentor team members including graduates by providing them with learning opportunities, advice and guidance to support the development of the team with a diverse range of skills and experience.
Who we’re looking for
- Project management qualification such as APM or PRINCE2 or similar.
- Demonstrable experience of delivering complex change in the transport sector at a senior level.
- Demonstrable knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations in support of a strong safety culture.
- Demonstrable experience of managing a budget, including forecasting and monitoring spend.
- Knowledge and experience of contract management.
- Experience of working, engaging and influencing internal colleagues and external stakeholders to deliver change projects.
Welsh Language Skills
The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
