Role: Senior Solution Architect (Authorisations / Terminal / TRACS)

As a Senior Solution Architect, you will lead the design and evolution of enterprise-grade solutions across Merchant Acquiring, covering Authorisations, Terminal integrations, Transaction routing, Merchant Account Maintenance, Settlement, and Clearing. You will ensure scalable, secure, cloud-based, resilient, and performant architecture that supports global payment flows and merchant experiences. This role requires deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and strong stakeholder engagement across engineering, product, and operations.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Leadership

  • Define and maintain end-to-end solution architecture for Authorisations, Terminal platforms, and transaction routing services.
  • Align designs with enterprise architecture principles and payment acceptance strategy.
  • Drive decisions balancing scalability, resilience, and time-to-market.

Technical Design & Governance

  • Produce architecture artefacts: solution blueprints, sequence diagrams, integration models, and network topology models.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and performance standards.
  • Collaborate with InfoSec and Risk teams to embed controls into designs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work with Product Owners, Engineering Leads, and Business Analysts to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Engage external vendors and internal platform teams for seamless terminal and routing integration.
  • Act as technical authority in workshops, steering committees, and delivery squads.

Domain Expertise

  • Provide expertise in payment authorisation flows, EMV standards, terminal protocols (ISO 8583, NEXO), and transaction routing logic.
  • Stay current with trends in payment technologies, acquirer networks, and merchant onboarding.

Delivery Enablement

  • Support agile teams with architecture guidance, technical spikes, and backlog refinement.
  • Ensure architecture is documented and communicated across delivery teams.
  • Contribute to scalability and performance tuning initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in solution architecture within payments, fintech, or retail systems.
  • Strong understanding of payment authorisation protocols, terminal integrations, and transaction routing.
  • Proven experience designing solutions using microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
  • Expertise in resilient cloud-based architecture and domain-driven design.
  • Knowledge of transaction routing and network topologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
