Overview

Specialist Welfare Adviser – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About us:

The King’s community is dedicated to the service of society. King’s Strategic Vision 2029 sets out our vision for the future, shaped around five priority areas: educate to inspire and improve; research to inform and innovate; serve to shape and transform; a civic university at the heart of London; and an international community that services the world. Our ambitious Education Strategy sets out the actions that we must take to transform how we teach, how and where our students learn and how we support them during their time with us.

Advice, Wellbeing & Welfare (AWW) provides inclusive, professional support to students experiencing personal, financial, housing and wellbeing challenges that may affect their ability to engage fully with university life and realise their potential. We recognise that students do not experience difficulties in isolation and take a holistic approach, combining early intervention and preventative support with specialist advice and casework for students facing more complex circumstances. Working collaboratively across King’s and with external partners, we help students navigate barriers, build resilience and access the support needed to make informed choices, supporting student success and contributing to an inclusive and empowering student experience.

We are part of the Students & Education Directorate, a collection of wide-ranging professional services in place to support King’s students and their education. As a directorate we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a coherent and seamless student experience and effective administrative processes, working closely with King’s faculties to do so.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for candidates looking to develop their expertise in complex welfare casework, safeguarding and advocacy within a large and diverse university community. You will support students experiencing challenges, including homelessness and housing insecurity, family breakdown and estrangement, financial deprivation, victimisation and exploitation, domestic abuse and sexual violence, harassment, online harms, safeguarding concerns, significant life events and barriers to engagement with university life. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will help students navigate complex situations, access appropriate support and advocate on their behalf where needed.

We welcome applications from candidates with experience supporting vulnerable young people or adults in settings such as social work, youth work, education, victim support, safeguarding, mental health services, housing or community services. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in complex case management, multi-agency working, safeguarding and institutional welfare practice, while helping shape preventative and early-intervention approaches to student support. We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience supporting victims of crime, financial exploitation, fraud, cybercrime or other emerging forms of harm.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about empowering individuals, navigating complex systems and responding to the evolving welfare challenges affecting students. You will join a service that continues to develop its approach to prevention, awareness-raising and early intervention, creating opportunities to influence future service delivery and help students access support before issues escalate.

We encourage applications from candidates with experience gained both within and outside the Higher Education sector who can demonstrate the skills needed to succeed in this role.

This is a full-time,  permanent post (35 hours per week).
