Job Description

This work experience advert is for placements scheduled between 6th April and 19th July 2026.

An advert for placements between the second half of July and September 2026 will open in April 2026.

Our work experience programme is officially open so whatever career you are interested in, we will do our very best to find a suitable placement for you, and one way or another we can guarantee it will be making a difference for our communities.

We can offer work experience placements from 1 day to 5 days per week, let us know on the application form what works best for you, and we will try and find you a suitable match.

The council is the corporate parent to care experienced young people and children looked after in the social care system in Wiltshire. As such, the council has special responsibilities to improve the lives of Wiltshire care experienced young people and looked after children. The council will strive to accommodate placement requests from care experienced young people, with priority being given to these requests over non-care experienced young people / looked after children.

The placement

At Wiltshire Council we recognise that high quality work placements provide individuals with the opportunity to learn new skills, build contacts and experience what it is like working in a real job.

Our aim is to help you make informed choices about your career and give you the chance to make a real contribution to helping our communities. During your placement we will also help you develop the soft skills, attitudes and behaviours expected in the workplace.

Places are limited but we will try to accommodate all requests received however this may not always be possible. You will be informed of the outcome by email.

Please also note: work experience placements are unpaid opportunities that allow you to gain real-world experience in a professional environment.

Sports – Countywide (driving license essential due to the nature of the placement)

Economic Development (Science) – Salisbury
