If it is you, then read further as we currently have an amazing opportunity – we are looking for a Supplier and Technical Production Specialist to join our team – on a 28-hour fixed-term contract (maternity cover, up to 12 months).

  

The role involves contributing to the strategic development of the journals through day-to-day communication with the suppliers to ensure that the journals’ articles accepted into publication meet our high standards. You will play an essential role to support the journals production team.

In this role, you will:

  • Coordinate the production workflow to ensure journal articles are published to agreed timescales and budgets.

  • Apply your science and English language skills to carry out quality control checks on our external suppliers’ copyediting work.

  • Keep the Supplier and Technical Production Manager, Journals, up to date with supplier performance data.

  • Be a trusted adviser for our external suppliers by providing guidance, responding to their production queries and providing regular performance feedback.

  • Act as a point of contact between RSC journals’ editorial teams and external suppliers and between authors and external suppliers, communicating issues and responding to queries.

  • Be encouraged to apply your knowledge of our production processes to identify problems and suggest solutions.

  • Have the opportunity to lead or contribute to projects within the team or on a wider scale with other teams across the journals department.

The successful candidate will receive full on-the-job training.

If you have the following, we would love to hear from you:  

  • A good honours degree in science (chemical science normally preferred).

  • Excellent written English skills and the confidence to identify, correct and explain issues in the fundamentals of English grammar.

  • Knowledge of STM publishing (beneficial not essential).

  • A proactive approach to problem solving.

  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure, to prioritise tasks and to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills in interacting with internal and external contacts.

  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
