Opportunity Overview
We are seeking a Teaching Fellow (Technical Workshops) to join the School of Science, Engineering and Environment. This role supports the delivery of high-quality, hands-on teaching in workshop environments and plays a vital part in ensuring an excellent student experience across engineering and related disciplines.
You will work closely with academic and technical colleagues to deliver practical teaching in both traditional and modern manufacturing processes, while supporting the safe operation, maintenance and development of workshop facilities.
About the School
The School of Science, Engineering and Environment is a large, multidisciplinary school comprising approximately 400 staff, 50 technical specialists and around 4,500 students. Our disciplines include engineering, computer science, biomedical science, geography and the built environment. Technical expertise underpins our teaching, research and innovation activities.
Due to funding deadlines this role will initially be advertised until 26/07/2026 but may close early subject to suitable candidates.
Responsibilities
- Deliver and support workshop-based practical teaching sessions
- Teach the safe and effective use of specialist equipment including traditional machinery and modern manufacturing technologies
- Contribute to the design of teaching materials, assessments and module content
- Support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of workshop facilities
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, policies and procedures
- Prepare and review risk assessments and manage incidents where necessary
- Support equipment procurement, sourcing and stock control
