We are seeking a talented and experienced HR Advisor to work join our newly created National Businesses function. The focus for this role is to deliver a comprehensive, all-rounded HR service for our National Business with sites across the UK. Whether you live in Leicester, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Milton Keynes or London if you enjoy a nationwide remit then this could be the role for you!

This broad and stretching HR Advisor role is an opportunity for you to partner with senior business stakeholders and work on a wide range of activities such as change initiatives including TUPE, talent attraction and development, inclusion and diversity, employee engagement and business improvement initiatives.  This is a hybrid role that combines nationwide travel and working from home.

Reporting into the HR Manager, the role of HR Advisor will represent the HR function within management teams across the business units to ensure national, Business Unit and local priorities and strategies are achieved. This key role will also be responsible for implementing, monitoring and adhering to HR policies, initiatives and projects often working within strict timescales supporting the delivery of the Group objectives.

The role of HR Advisor will also be responsible for:

  • Working with colleagues to deliver the strategy on talent attraction, talent identification and development and succession planning
  • Supporting early careers activities, including our educational engagement activities
  • Ensuring stakeholder compliance with employment law and company policies and procedures to deliver optimisation, drive efficiencies and improve cost control
  • Delivery of HR KPI data, analysis and insight at Senior Management Meetings
  • Supporting the performance cycle throughout the year including talent reviews, nine box grid sessions, 1:1’s and team meetings
  • Promoting a culture of consistency, equality and fairness in all employee relations matters, challenging stakeholders where appropriate
  • Providing coaching and support to site management teams, to create an enabling and engaging culture
  • Delivery of onboarding and various training programmes
  • Proactively engaging with union representatives across multiple sites and supporting the annual wage negotiation process for unionised sites
  • Using available metrics and trends to make informed decisions across a wide range of HR areas
  • Drive an absence and performance management culture across all sites

 

Suitable candidates for the role of HR Advisor will ideally be CIPD qualified or possess equivalent experience and a background within a generalist HR Function with experience in managing complex ER issues. Additionally, you will have a comprehensive understanding of HR principles and practices, coupled with relevant business experience and professional development.

This newly created opportunity for an HR Advisor will suit an experienced individual looking to expand their current skills on an increased scope with the following key attributes:

  • Good working and practical understanding of employment law and how to deal with employee relations cases
  • Proven track record of supporting business changes such as reorganisations and TUPE transfers
  • Ability to assess situations, make recommendations and actively seek solutions
  • Experience of working in a unionised environment
  • High integrity and ability to coach, challenge, impact and influence others
  • Well organised, agile and resilient with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Curiosity and a desire for self development
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and develop strong relationships internally and externally
  • Personal drive and a desire to succeed and improve
  • A persuasive negotiator you will also demonstrate good ambassadorial and diplomatic skills
  • Confidence to bring your own ideas on improvement and development of our teams and overall business to contribute to Tarmac being a great place to work

This is a mobile role and a company car is provided so full UK driving licence is essential. Nationwide travel including overnight stays should be expected.
