Internal Audit Manager – Westminster, SW1A0PW

INTERNAL AUDIT MANAGER

House of Lords – Clerk of the Parliaments Office

BELONG HERE. TOGETHER, WE MAKE PARLIAMENT HAPPEN.

As an Internal Audit Manager, you’ll play an important role in supporting the UK’s parliamentary democracy. Your work will help Members carry out their responsibilities effectively – contributing to something bigger than any one role.

You’ll be part of a collaborative community, working alongside colleagues from a wide range of professions. Together, we make Parliament happen.

You’ll be based on the Parliamentary Estate in Westminster – a unique working environment shaped by history and powered by the people who work here today.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering a high-impact Internal Audit service, helping to provide assurance and insight across the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders, you’ll lead and deliver a varied portfolio of audits, contribute to the development of a risk-based audit plan, and help ensure key actions and improvements are implemented effectively.

You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across governance, business improvement and change functions, while championing the advisory role of Internal Audit and building strong relationships with senior management. As a senior member of the team, you’ll mentor and support colleagues, helping to develop capability and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who can bring their skills and experience to make a meaningful contribution here.

You’ll be:

  • Professionally qualified: CMIIA or CCAB with appropriate IA management experience

You’ll have:

  • Experience in an IA leadership role including direct management of audit staff
  • Knowledge and practical application of a risk based planning approach.
  • Practical knowledge of current IA best practice, including approaches, tools and techniques
  • Established knowledge of current professional standards and their application
  • Ability to deliver high-quality audit work to agreed timescales
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to convey information to senior stakeholders clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing

It would be even better if you have (or are willing to learn):

  • Established team ethic and an ability to prioritise the objectives of the section at all times.
  • Ability to recognise and develop opportunities for continuous improvement of all elements of the IA function.

For full details, please see the job description.

What you’ll get in return

This is an exciting opportunity to influence organisational improvement beyond traditional audit activity. You’ll also deputise for the Head of Internal Audit, gaining valuable exposure to senior stakeholders and governance forums.

Working at the House of Lords means joining a community that values your wellbeing, growth and contribution.

You’ll benefit from:

  • 30 days annual leave (rising to 35 after one year)
  • Generous Civil Service pension scheme
  • A comprehensive Parliamentary health and wellbeing programme
  • Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities across diverse professions
  • The chance to witness democracy in action and work in a place of historic national significance

The work we do is vital to the House of Lords – the second chamber of the UK Parliament. It plays a critical role in making laws, scrutinising government, and providing independent expertise on national issues.
