Salary: £23893 – £27334 pa plus10% shift allowance

We are looking for adaptable, proactive, dedicated individuals to join our team as Neighbourhood Enforcement Officers. You will be working as part of a close-knit team and will be required to work closely with Environmental Case Officers dealing with environmental, noise, and community safety issues daily.

In your role, you will be acting as a visible uniformed enforcement presence and provide “on-street” advice to the public, signposting them to other Council services where appropriate and making them aware of the problems arising from non-compliance with environmental services legislation.

You will challenge behaviour that is unacceptable in the neighbourhood such as fly-tipping, dog fouling, littering, and graffiti, and, where informal approaches have been disregarded, utilise appropriate legislative tools, including the issuing of fixed penalty notices as well as other statutory notices for environmental offences and breaches.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

As a NEO you will have a weekly rota working pattern where you will do one week of early shifts (7.00 am – 3.00 pm) and one week of late shifts (11.00 am – 7.00 pm). You are also required to work one weekend in five (Saturday 8:30 am 4:30 pm, Sunday 9 am – 4:30 pm). Due to the shift pattern of this role, you will benefit from a 10% shift allowance.

We are looking for someone with:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to relate and deal with issues from local residents and staff from partner organisations in an assertive, polite and tactful manner. With oral and written communication skills, including the use of telephone, radio, and other communication devices, and making accurate notes of incidents and activities undertaken during the day.
  • Previous experience with an enforcement background would be useful, and some Knowledge of the Fixed Penalty Notice process, and the issuing of.  Compiling Prosecution files and attending court
